Guild Wars 2: Chris Whiteside on the Lost Shores and Beyond

Greetings Heroes of Tyria,

Last weekend we released our free Lost Shores mini-expansion, which introduced a new level 80 map, a brand new PvP map, over 400 new items and rewards,  as well as The Fractals of the Mists—an infinite dungeon that increases in difficulty the deeper you progress.

We’re very excited about the new content, and from the reactions we have seen, so are many of you. Players have already spent an incredible amount of time in the new Fractals dungeon, and their reaction to it has been phenomenal. A lot of gw2 gold players really enjoyed the trailblazing aspect of unveiling the new Southsun Cove map, specifically the feeling of discovery and being part of the land grab.

Having said that, we’re also aware that there were certain aspects of the event that could have worked better than they did, and thanks to your excellent feedback we’ll be working toward strengthening this type of content moving forward. At ArenaNet, we always try to push the boundaries of how we build online worlds, and we thank you for your patience and collaboration as we pioneer into unknown territories. We’ve seen people saying that they really liked the principle of using events to unveil new content, but we need to tighten up the methods by which they are deployed. We take these comments to heart, as it is our goal to always deliver content of the highest quality.

We want to extend a huge “thank you” to all of the players who attended the Lost Shores event over the weekend. We really enjoyed playing with you all and we learned a great deal about the broad spectrum of content we offered. Our sincere thanks for all your feedback and for being part of the journey as we continue to build upon the world of Guild Wars 2.

We also want take the opportunity to talk a little bit about what we have coming into the game soon from a high-level standpoint, an aperitif if you like before our Thanksgiving celebrations. After the holiday we’ll be doing a number of community Q&As and live community conferences where you can ask us questions and get the down-low on how we are evolving the world of Tyria.

Here’s a general rundown of what we are working towards over the upcoming months:

Revamping all of our existing dungeons (Story and Explorable versions) through rebalance and overhauled encounters.

Adding new dungeons to the Fractal of the

Adding more variation to creatures, enhancing our open world scaling system, as well as evolving many events and experiences across Tyria.

Fixing and improving existing content throughout the game, and better tying it into the overall sense of player progression within Guild Wars 2.

Building on the Southsun Cove’s persistent content.

Adding new Guild content and Guild progression features.

Continuing to evolve PvP into an E-sport as outlined here: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/structured-pvp-iceberg/

Adding brand new content to World vs. World as well as adding new reward progression.

Continuing to build upon the story and adventures of Guild Wars 2.

So from all of us here at ArenaNet, we hope you have a fantastic holiday and we look forward to seeing and speaking to you all next week—that is if we don’t see you in-game first!

Guild Wars 2: Lost Shores Event Fixes and Clarification

With only a few hours before the next Lost Shores in game event, the great Stephane Lo Presti has been kind enough to relay some fixes that were pushed out for yesterday's happenings. He notes that an error has prevented ArenaNet from fixing a bug from phase one of the event, so instead of removing it from the game as originally planned gw2 gold players will be able to experience it even after phase two begins later today.

The bug with Noll is scheduled to go live later today.

You can find the full change details below, but don't spend too long reading them! Hurry on over to Lion's Arch to take advantage of the situation before it's too late!

See you all in buy guild wars 2 gold game!

Quote

Hi everyone,

We have now identified and applied fixes for the reported bugs related to the Lost Shores phase 1. This includes events for the NPCs Canach and Fahd al’Eshadhi, but not for Noll who is still bugged. We’ve also fixed the bugs of Miyani sending multiple emails, Blingg’s voice over being spammed, the Largos dynamic events and a few other bugs.

We’ve identified the fix for Noll’s event but this fix will require additional time to implement. Because of this we’re going to leave the Phase 1 dynamic events (investigation of the Karka attacks) open even after Phase 2 starts (Saturday November 17 at 12pm Pacific Time), which will allow us to push a fix for Noll’s dynamic event later so that players can complete phase 1 of The Lost Shores event.

This change in the organization of the event means that:

To complete Phase 1, you have to complete the dynamic event chain leading to Noll before Saturday November 17 at 12pm Pacific Time; you will be able to complete the dynamic events after Noll once we’ve pushed the fix; you can refer to the "wiki article about Phase ":http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Lost_Shores/Phase_1> for more information;
Some NPCs (primarily Canach and Inspector Ellen Kiel) will be duplicated for phases 2 and 3, and may appear simultaneously in Lion’s Arch and in Southsun Cove.

We’re very sorry about this and hope that you can continue to experience The Lost Shores and help us retake Lion’s Arch and repel the Karkas!

Guild Wars 2: "It is not our intention to create an Item spiral" - statement on ascended objects

The announcement of the Ascended items for Guild Wars 2 did not care at all Guild Wars fans enthusiasm. Many players feared the retreat a "Item spiral" now second in Guild Wars ArenaNet's Studio Design Director Chris Whiteside commented on the player concerned.

In the official forum for Guild Wars 2 Chris Whiteside published (Studio Design Director at ArenaNet) a response to the concerns of many Guild Wars fans on a possible item spiral. "It is not our intention to create an Item spiral," said Whiteside in his post. It continues: "Our goal is to ensure that we can make a reasonable (Character) Development of exotic to legendary items without a massive gap between the two yawns".

The ArenaNet developers it is therefore important that the missing items, and ascended slowly introduce legendary weapons and also in combination always sufficient to bring new content to the gw2 gold game, for better rewards are really reasonable. "We will not introduce every three months a new object-level. It is not in our interest to you, to send you on a hunt item for you to shimmy from set to set," writes Chris Whiteside.

Also want the ArenaNet developers preserve the balance in PvP and will not compromise. Chris Whiteside also reports that other awards and advancement systems are in the works that will work in conjunction with both existing and upcoming content. The full post by Chris Whiteside to the Ascended items in Guild Wars 2 you will find in the official game forum.

Guild Wars 2: So Whats Your Opinion On The Armor Aesthetic In This Game

We have interviews some Guild Wars 2 players about their view of the Armor Aesthetic, here is what they think:

Seraph Guardian:the only skin that means anything right now is the holloween slippers xd imo of course..

I dont like the god set on my engineer.. well I like the hat but the butt cape is a little too much.. the rascal crafted set looks pretty good.

the arah set still working on

Sylvari Specialist:I really don't get the argument for restricting armor to professions as though doing so will magically produce more variety of armor. No, that would just give us the same number of armor except we'd be even more limited by what armor has been assigned to each profession. It's not the shared pool of armor that's giving us limited variety, it's simply because it's a new gw2 gold game. Comparing it to GW1 is stupid because the first game had been out for over 7 years to accumulate all those varieties of armor.

Seraph Guardian:I would have liked to see a set up more similar to the original GW, with basic armour being easily available and then having more elaborate "elite" versions that cost more.  The change seems like it was only to push the use of the gemstore, so that's a little disappointing.  I also think it would have been nice if the random armour drops from enemies were more specific to the area you're in, similar to how the weapon skins work.  It seems like you have very few armour options up until around level 35 and it's even worse if you're not crafting.

In terms of actual asthetics though, I think they're fine.  Like most others are saying, a bit more variety would help though, especially for the medium armour sets.  I loved the few coats there were in GW1, but having almost nothing but coats this time doesn't really work.

Seraph Guardian:I really don't get the argument for restricting armor to professions as though doing so will magically produce more variety of armor. Comparing it to GW1 is stupid because the first game had been out for over 7 years to accumulate all those varieties of armor.

At least in my case, I don't need them to be profession specific, really, I just mean I miss a lot of designs that were profession specific in GW1. I'd be more than happy to see throwback designs to those armors, but generally available as light/medium/heavy. As I think someone else mentioned, more sets "intended" for specific professions and fitting their tropes and themes, but not necessarily restricted to singular profs.

In other words... More sexay courtier style armors for mesmers (but also usable by other scholars who want a touch of hauteur), plox!

Sylvari Specialist:I think the armor for the most part is great.   There are TONS of sets to shoot for, and some of them look great and aren't that hard to attain (fireheart rise heavy set).   Sure, there probably are a few too many "skirt" looking armors and maybe a few too many trenchcoats.  BUT, it's certainly much better than any other fantasy gw2 gold game I've played.

GW2 - Why Dynamic Levels Are Awesome

Guild Wars 2 implements a very dynamic level system, which grants a lot of awesome benefits to the gw2 gold game for both newer players, as well as more experienced ones. Let's take a look at what makes the dynamic levels so great! After, we're going to look at some notes that you will want to keep in mind when utilizing the system.

It Works Both Ways

Not only are higher levels scaled down to lower levels, but in some cases the lower levels are boosted to higher levels! This is true all the time for World vs. World combat, and has also been the case for the Halloween event, where players, regardless of level, had their stats boosted to that of a level 80. This leads us on to the next major benefit.

Events Can Include Everyone

Rather than having to make multiple events for various level brackets, greatly reducing the amount of content for players, everyone is able to take part in the same things. As a great example of this, the Mad King's instance (part of the Halloween event). In this instance, players, whether level 2 or level 80 can all take part and all contribute to the success of the dungeon. In other games, there would either be multiple watered-down instances (due to having to make more than one to account for everyone) or a lot of players wouldn't even be able to take part (due to having only one instance and requiring a high level). The dynamic levels in this sense ensure everyone can take part, regardless of their level.

Experience or Re-Experience Low Level Content

For players like myself, clearing all of the end-game gets a little repetitive. To help keep from doing the same thing over and over, I often end up being forced to make alternate characters for lower level content. This is because while I like experiencing lower level stuff again, I don't want to one-hit everything either. The dynamic levels allow going to any lower level zone and still having a bit of a challenge. While this is true, though, all new skills (such as level 80) are available when dropped to a lower one, so it is still easier, but it's not even close to being a steamroll.

Playing With Friends is Easy!

Let's face it: mmo's are social by nature and that often leads to desires like playing with friends. As part of this, especially with how many levels there are in GW2, people won't always be at the same level unless they only play when each other are on. Luckily, the leveling system helps eliminate this problem by allowing you to still play with your friends and earn rewards, experience and just have fun. This is true whether helping out with the heart tasks, doing dynamic events, etc. Regardless of your level and theirs, you're always able to group and on somewhat equal grounds.

It Allows Class Testing

One of the most common questions gw2 gold gamers ask is what class they should play. There are multiple choices and people just don't want to take the time to level up one of each solely to figure out what it's going to be like at end-game. With the level boosting in place for the Heart of the Mists and experience the game at maximum level with end-game gear.

If PvE is what you're after, you can still benefit from the Heart of the Mists. If you head to the south-east corner, you will find many different mobs you can test your skills out on. And in the western side of the island are test dummies you can experiment with as well. This helps not only understand what skills are at your disposal, but it also gives a method for testing them out in real-world combat, as well as learning how to play any class at the maximum level. At that point, if you want to test your character out in PvP, you can simply jump in a match!

Some Notes

There are some things you will want to keep in mind regarding the system and its levels:

If you go to a lower level zone, your drops will be lower level. Along with this, the rewards for taking part in the various zone events will be lower (although still higher than what you'd get at the “proper” level)
The teleporting costs remain the same depending on your level, so it's still costly to keep porting around in a lower level area. Repair costs will remain the same as well. This is all offset by the somewhat easier combat, but you can still be overwhelmed easily if you're not careful
The benefit of out-leveling quests is almost non-existent. Unless you're getting new skills by getting to a higher level, and those skills will directly benefit you in the combat, gaining extra levels doesn't matter, since you'll be down-leveled to an appropriate one anyways. Instead, it's a good idea to take it slow and learn the game properly, rather than attempting to use levels to pummel enemies with ease
You can effectively test out all sorts of gear in the Heart of the Mists. There are vendors there that sell all sorts of weapons, plus you can find other gear as well. Whether you are rank 1 or higher doesn't matter for this purpose either, since the only difference between the various ranks of gear is their looks

Guild Wars 2 sPVP - The Death Spiral of Competitive Play

It has become very apparent that there has been a major drop-off in the interest in s/tPvP.
Paid tournaments are seeing long queue times even during peak hours, and there seems to be a dwindling number of teams that are taking the gw2 gold game seriously anymore.
There are several reasons for this:
Stagnant, uninteresting play (bunker guardian and back point tp/time warp mesmer in every comp, few viable builds overall)
Limited options for solo players
New or pickup teams have no consistent way to play against other evenly skilled opponents
The ticket system is placing a barrier in front of people who may actually want to try to find consistent arranged opponents
tPvP is missing many basic features that even GW1 released with 7 years ago
I elaborate on these points in the video.

In addition, according ArenaNet the balls of force to remove. Should be resolved according to the developer so that "caused by hacking problems and imbalances in the gameplay."

The bullets would often strengthen teams who would already be in the lead, were too tempting for hackers and scammers and could affect the outcome of a game WvW strong. However there is a possibility that the balls or similar object will introduced again in the future, but only after they have to ensure that no similar problems are caused thereby.
